JIM WILSON JOINS AIRSHOW MASTERING
Austin engineer moves to Boulder studio, celebrates Americana win

September 27, 2006 Boulder, CO –Jim Wilson, former proprietor of Yes! Mastering in Austin TX is the latest engineer to join Airshow Mastering at its Boulder CO studios.

Jim brings 23 years of recording experience to the Airshow team. Jim’s wide range of musical experience, while highlighting popular Austin-area artists like Joe Ely, the Flatlanders, Sara Hickman, and Pat Mastellotto, ranges folk and world to punk, indie rock, and electronica.

At the recent Americana Music Association Awards, “Childish Things” by James McMurtry was named Album of the Year. Jim Wilson mastered the project, which was engineered by Stuart Sullivan at Wire Recording in Austin. Among Jim Wilson’s notable credits are Jimmie Dale Gilmore’s “Come on Back,” nominated for a GRAMMY in 2005; and “Dr Velvet,” by Nick Curran, nominated for a WC Handy Award.

“Jim Wilson has been the go-to guy for mastering in Austin,” says Airshow founder and chief engineer David Glasser. “We’re really happy to have him here. And he’s still Austin artists’ top mastering engineer.”

A musician himself; playing brass instruments, bass and guitar; Jim has worked on both sides of the mic, touring with Bob Mould and running his own studios in Austin.  The experience helps Jim relate to the artist’s creative process: “No two recordings are the same,” says Jim, “every project is unique and requires a custom approach.  My goal is to make every effort necessary to achieve the original intent and vision of the artist. Now I’ll be able to work on my clients’ surround sound projects, with Airshow’s great multichannel set-up.”

“Jim has taught audio engineering students, and supervises our interns at Airshow. We all make an effort to share our knowledge with students and other audio pros. He fits right into our culture,” concludes Glasser.

Founded in 1983, Airshow operates studios in Boulder CO and Springfield VA. Airshow engineers have won two GRAMMYs for Best Historical Recording, and have mastered over 60 other GRAMMY-nominated projects.
