Mastering
Mastering includes assembling the artist's mixes into a
finished state, fade-ins, fade-outs, equalization and dynamics processing to
enhance the audio. The result is an equalized, leveled, and sequenced master
for replication. At all times, we work in a custom built, high-resolution monitoring
environment.
Critical to achieving great results consistently is a wealth of analog and
digital tools at our disposal--compressor/limiters, equalizers, and consoles.
Analog projects are converted using the latest 20 and 24 bit analog to digital
converters, with Prism, API, and Manley analog signal processing.
Once the audio is in the digital domain, we maintain 24 bit resolution
throughout mastering. For the highest resolution possible during the final
conversion to CD standard 16 bit resolution, extensive "redithering"
options are available. For high resolution
projects, 24 bit/96k processing (for surround and DVD) and DSD/SACD mastering are available.
Editing
Editing, album assembly and sequencing, and CD master
formatting are done using the editing tools of Sonic Solutions workstations.
Clients rely equally on our musical expertise
and editing skills to create a project that is seamless and captures the musical
sensibility of the performer. A demo disc of Charlie's classical music editing skills is
available; please call Ann for a copy.
Restoration
Restoration removes broadband noise (hiss),
distortion, click and pop, using Sonic Solutions NoNoise. Some of
the most cherished reissues of recent years have benefitted from NoNoise
processing at Airshow. A demo disc of Airshow's restoration skills is available;
please contact Ann for a copy.
In 2003, Airshow created the Restoration Center, a suite of services to assist libraries
and private collections to digitize analog audio archives and make them accessible electronically.
Please call Ann in Boulder for details.
Mixing
Mixing is available in Boulder, combining ProTools and the popular
Yamaha 02R digital console with a wealth of
outboard gear and the revealing monitoring environment of the Home Away from Home studio.
Projects recorded on location or in a project room can be mixed directly into
the Sonic Solutions workstation at high resolution or to our Studer or ATR
analog 1/2" recorders. A demo disc of James's mixing skills is available;
please contact Ann for a copy.
Location Recording
Location recording includes concert or session
recording using high resolution digital formats including 24 bit, and
the new Sony DSD recording system with 2.8 mHz sampling rate.
