AIRSHOW WINS GRAMMY FOR BEST HISTORICAL RECORDING FOR PATTON BOX SET
February 23, 2003 New York, New York "Screamin' and Hollerin' the Blues: the Worlds of Charley Patton," a mammoth box set chronicling the music of the Delta blues pioneer, was awarded three GRAMMY awards. The Recording Academy honored the Revenant Records release with GRAMMYs for Best Historical Album, Best Album Notes, and Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package, all the categories for which it was nominated. Airshow founder David Glasser and staff engineer Matt Sandoski were cited for mastering, editing, and restoring the final 118 songs from 15 hours of source material. Christopher King, also cited for the project, provided or arranged for digital transfers of the material from the original 78 rpm recordings. Taking home honors as producer was Dean Blackwood, founder‹ with John Fahey‹ of the Revenant Records label. "The Charlie Patton set was by far the most ambitious restoration project we've been involved with." says David Glasser. "While we thoroughly enjoy working on the bleeding edge with new high-resolution formats like SACD, it's a special treat to help mine and preserve some of our musical heritage. When you live with a project like this for almost a year, you really sense the power of the music, and its connection to our time." "Screamin' and Hollerin' the Blues" was envisioned by Revenant Records co-founder John Fahey as a look at Delta blues and its influence on American music, using Charley Patton's groundbreaking work as the central element. Fahey's master thesis on Patton is included in the package; he was at work on the project when he passed away in June 2001. "We are so proud to have been part of the realization of John's long-range vision, and hopefully we contributed to the reconsideration of Patton's place in American musical history," concluded Glasser.

recordings, Airshow Mastering has worked on some of the epochal restoration projects of
